CFCP Public Lecture: Nico Cornell
Nico Cornell (Michigan Law) will deliver the annual CFCP Public Lecture on October 29th. We hope you will join us!
Where: VPD 105 (USC University Park Campus)
When: Thursday, October 29, 12:00-2:00
Why: To think through the roles of various forms of humility
Inhabiting Humility
Calls for epistemic humility are ubiquitous; seemingly everyone acknowledges the need for it. This paper defends a non-epistemic idea of humility. That is, it defends the existence of normative phenomena that does not involve epistemic content or processes, and yet that seemingly constitute a form of humility. It involves seeing yourself as having a limited sphere of action; it is captured colloquially by the thought, “not my place.” The paper then explores some connections between this idea and environmental ethics and the so-called rights of nature.
